Artist's Bio

I grew up in an artistic family in rural Ontario, Canada, amidst landscapes that have inspired artists over generations. From earliest childhood I was encouraged to experiment with creating visual "messes" in various media, including oils, watercolors, pastel, clay and pen and ink.  The visual arts have remained my first passion throughout my life.

For many years I have pursued part time studies in art and photography at such schools as Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Langara College and the University of Victoria.  The subjects I choose for both my painting and my photography, as in the creative play of my childhood, are primarily the scenes, people and objects that surround us in our everyday lives. I find that a discerning eye is all that is needed to reveal the extraordinary in the commonplace.

More recently I have become fascinated with capturing with the camera images of things that, while quite real, are never actually seen by the human eye.  The photographic eye freezes in time for us to see as never before the incredible grace in a dancer's leap or the patterns made by windswept clouds racing across a stormy sky. As well, I am deeply engaged in making multimedia and digital art using my photographs as the underlying bones of my compositions.

My work has been exhibited and sold in fine art shows and galleries in Canada and may be purchased in a variety of sizes and formats by contacting me personally.
